On April 20, the KICT held a special forum to celebrate its 40th anniversary with the theme of “Transition to a Carbon-Neutral Society” held at El Tower Orce Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Over 400 guests attended the special 40th anniversary forum. It began with an opening speech by KICT President Kim Byung-suk, followed by a keynote lecture, panel discussions, and other activities. The proceedings were live-streamed on the KICT YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@feelkict).

The keynote lecture was delivered by Co-Chairperson Kim Sang-hyub of the 2050 Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth, who is responsible for planning and implementing major carbon neutrality policies in Korea. Co-Chairperson Kim spoke on the national agenda of the “Transition to a Carbon Neutral Society” and introduced national policies for achieving carbon neutrality and promoting green growth. He also presented strategies for greenhouse gas reductions and their implementation in the construction sector.

In the subsequent panel discussion, chaired by KICT President Kim Byung-suk, Co-Chairperson Kim Sang-hyub, President Heo Jun-haeng of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, Chairman Choi Chang-sik of the Architectural Institute of Korea, and President Jung Jin-hyuk of the Korean Society of Transportation participated as panelists. They expressed a wide range of opinions and perspectives on the role and contribution that different methods in the construction sector could play in achieving carbon neutrality.

“Through this special forum held in celebration of the 40th anniversary of our institute, we have engaged in in-depth discussions on ways to contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and realizing green growth. We will continue to promote greenhouse gas reduction efforts and actively respond to the climate crisis through collaborations among industry, academia, research institutes, and government agencies, in order to bring about tangible changes,” stated KICT President Kim Byung-suk.
