On September 24, the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT) and the Korea Science Journalists Association (KSJA) held KICT Media Day at the KICT headquarters in Ilsan to discuss strategies for preventing subsidence and urban flooding.
Formed in June this year, the Disaster and Construction Safety Project Team performs focused analysis of disasters and accidents involving subsidence, flooding, fires, and construction accidents in urban areas. A total of 44 PhD-level experts presented policy and technical recommendations, including subsidence risk mapping, urban flood forecasting, lowland flood prevention, early fire detection, fire spread control, and AI-based smart safety management.
“The KICT will fulfill its responsibility as a government-funded institute by minimizing loss of life from natural disasters and construction accidents through technologies and policies that deliver tangible results for the public,” emphasized KICT President Park Sun-kyu.
