On January 16, the KICT concluded an MOU for technical collaboration with the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research Center (PEER) of the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) in San Francisco. Located on UC Berkeley campus grounds, PEER is a world-leading research institute in the field of earthquake disasters.

The new MOU will see the KICT and PEER work together to reduce earthquake-caused loss and analyze earthquake data in technical contexts. It will also open up opportunities for sharing technology and experiences in performance-based design and earthquake engineering, through numerical analysis, large-scale experiments, public policy decisions, and other activities. The KICT is set to commence convergence research on AI-enabled earthquake safety in the first half of 2024.
