Introduction

The Department of Living and Built Environment Research engages in research and development on buildings, which are spaces filled with the life of people, as well as the structural safety and components of cities, materials, and energy and resource conservation performance in its efforts to contribute to national development and improvements in quality of life. Through its work, it is forming the backbone of a new architectural culture by developing systems, policies, construction techniques, products, evaluation methods, etc. and applying a range of advanced technologies. Based on the technological development performance and capacities it has developed over multiple years, the Department of Living and Built Environment Research will not only support research on the establishment of national standards and policies, but also will cooperate with the academic and industrial community to contribute to the globalization of Korean construction and urban technologies.
