Introduction

The Department of Infrastructure Safety Research possesses the research experts, domestic/international expert networks, and research equipment and facilities needed to develop national infrastructures such as roads, bridges, tunnels, etc. that are economical, eco-friendly and safe. It is in charge of a range of research activities, such as the development of advanced construction technologies for various infrastructures such as building foundations, tunnels, ground reinforcement and improvement, ground environments, etc., as well as the convergence and integrated technology development that can enable a response to future construction markets such as smart structures, transportation information services, smart roads, etc. that integrate high performance construction materials and utilization technologies and information technologies. Through its work, the Department is actively responding to the changing needs of domestic and foreign construction environments. In the future, it will develop various policies and technologies not only to ensure the safety of infrastructures, but also to develop future-leading construction technologies for intelligent, information and high value infrastructures.
