Introduction

To realize the smart construction through a digitalization of the construction industry, the department tries to develop and commercialize convergence technologies, focusing on a construction information, a spatial information, an autonomous driving, an extreme environment construction, and a construction automation. The achievements can be used in diverse ways such as a core technology development, policy and regulation establishment, technology application and commercialization, and a industry support. The department’s major research areas include ⓐsmart construction and spatial information–based convergence technology, ⓑadvanced transportation technology such as Cooperative Intelligent Transport System (C-ITS), ⓒconstruction in extreme environments such as space, the Arctic/Antarctic, and contaminated areas, and ⓓsmart roads and autonomous driving system technology. In particular, the KICT’s Construction Automation Research Center conducts research on BIM for construction automation, virtual construction, equipment automation, and 3-D printing, which will help advance the country’s construction capabilities and improve the quality of people’s lives.
