Introduction

The MDCO is a practical convergence research team supervised by the National Research Council of Science and Technology, and it is hosted by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology and joined by three national research centers, which are the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources, the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information, and the Korea Railroad Research Institute. As well, 23 institutes including domestic universities and foreign research centers and 16 companies are also participating in this organization. The MDCO is engaged in four major fields: the development of a disaster information collection system, the development of compound disaster and behavior prediction techniques, early response and rapid restoration technologies, and the development of integrated disaster response information platforms. Its ultimate goal is to complete the commercialization of an integrated CPS. The MDCO is working to enhance the reliability of the nation's infrastructure through damage prediction, developing bases for minimizing damages and procuring disaster safety through the systematic management of disasters for skyscraper buildings. Its ultimate aim is to minimize human damages and loss of life due to compound disasters.
