On March 2, KICT signed a school agreement with the University of Science & Technology (UST) to launch KICT School, a graduate school of construction technology.

Present at the agreement ceremony were Dr. Lee Sangchun, Chairman of NST (National Research Council of Science & Technology); Dr. Kil-Choo Moon, President of UST; and the heads of and other officials from the national research institutes in partnership with NST on the school agreement, such as KICT, KIST (Korea Institute of Science and Technology), KRIBB (Korea Research Institute of Bioscience & Biotechnology), and KRICT (Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology).

As a ‘government-funded research institute university’ founded with its partner research institutes’ infrastructure, including their research facilities, equipment, research staff, and experience, UST is the only university in South Korea that fosters Master’s and Ph.D. researchers in the national strategic sectors and industry areas for which the existing universities may find it difficult to establish and run programs.

In 2004, KICT opened its KICT Campus to offer professional research training programs. The existing UST-KICT Campus offers three programs in civil and environmental engineering, transportation and logistics engineering & IST engineering, and geotechnical & geo-space engineering, taught by 59 KIST researchers, and last year (2016), the KICT Campus produced two Ph.D. and 38 Master’s researchers.

Thanks to the UST School certification, KICT plans to establish a new educational system by launching KICT School, a more systematic platform for the graduate school of construction technology.
