KICT signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Ilsan Doosan We’ve The Zenith Living Support Center on September 25. Intended for cooperation between the two parties to strengthen the disaster-response capability of high-rise, the MOU will allow for empirical studies of an actual high-rise building. KICT and the center have agreed to make physical and human exchanges, share findings from disaster-response studies, and jointly use facilities, equipment, and apparatus to reduce damage from disasters and strengthen anti-disaster capabilities.
KICT launched the three-year initiative of the Multi-Disaster Countermeasures Organization (MDCO, 2016–2019) in December 2016, under which it has been conducting convergent research with four government-funded research institutes affiliated with the National Research Council of Science and Technology, focusing on the topic of “open-platform-based cyber-physical systems to respond to disasters and incidents in high-rise buildings and multiplexes” to minimize casualties in the event of major disasters such as earthquakes, fire, and flooding.
