KICT signed a MOU with the Republic of Korea Navy in the Gyeryongdae Complex in Chungnam Province on December 1 and agreed on exchanges and cooperation in various fields including technical support for fire safety. The parties reached an agreement that they will be collaborating in many areas, for example, conducting research projects to implement national policies and applying research outcomes to the field, offering technical advice and training to the Navy, and using the Navy’s equipment and facilities for research purposes.
On request from the Navy, KICT invited naval officers to the KICT FIRE in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province on September 12 and presented them its fire safety technology. On September 26, a simulation test was conducted to reproduce cases where fire is caused by disposed batteries from naval vessels.
KICT-FIRE is commissioned with national R&D projects including the “development of fire control and maintenance technology for very long subsea tunnels,” and the “development of design and construction technology for great depth double deck tunnels” and has been committed to conduct research on fire safety in special facilities, for example, compressed air foam systems and automated foam fire extinguishers.
