The KICT’s Department of Future Technology and Convergence Research held a briefing session on the results of research on the development of a transport system to improve the traffic environment for the elderly, on April 18 at 2 p.m. at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The project is being led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT).

During the briefing session, research results and various new technologies related to transportation for the elderly developed by the KICT were introduced, including the “silver carriage,” a haptic-type walking guide support system, and a mobile handrail.

Director Byeong-Seop Moon of the Research Strategic Planning Department said, "An active and aggressive response is required since Korea has become an aging society in 2017 and is expected to become a super-aged society by 2026. I hope this briefing session will be the cornerstone for creating not only a safe and comfortable traffic environment but also support facilities for the vulnerable, including the elderly."
