The “Plastic-free Challenge” is a campaign jointly operated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the Jejupass Corporation that began in November 2018. As part of the campaign, which aims to eliminate single-use plastics, KRW 1,000 is accumulated for every social media post showing participants using tumblers instead of plastic cups. The accumulated money will be used to make tumblers, and the proceeds from the tumbler sales will be donated to the WWF and will be used toward environmental conservation on Jeju.
President Han commented that it was, “Of great personal significance to participate in such a meaningful event.” He added, “The KICT is also engaged in various plastics-related research, and our [KICT] staff is making various efforts to reduce the use of disposable, single-use products in people’s everyday lives.”
