The Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT) and the Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND) signed an MOU at the KICT headquarters on May 14 in a bid to secure competitiveness in the global infrastructure construction market.

The partnership between the two institutions is a bid to promote public-private partnerships (PPPs) in overseas development investment in the world infrastructure construction market, where competition continues to increase on a daily basis. Based on KICT’s technological know-how and KIND's overseas project planning competencies, the two companies plan to develop large-scale infrastructure projects tailored to the demands of developing economies and help Korean firms participate in such projects.

Vietnam is the first country in which the two agencies will work together. Experts from the KICT will be dispatched as Infrastructure Cooperation Officers to the Overseas Infrastructure Cooperation Center Operated by the KIND in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, the officers will closely manage local surveys, communicate information to relevant parties, and facilitate close cooperation between institutions. In addition to providing joint support in negotiations with overseas governments and potential overseas clients, the two agencies will also hold regular working group meetings to promote inter-agency cooperation.
