On March 28, the KICT (President Kim Byung-suk) signed a technical cooperation MOU with the Korean Society of Civil Engineers (President Heo Jun-haeng), Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea (President Kim Ick-hyun), Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (CEO Hong Won-hak), and the Korea Fire Protection Association (CEO Kang Young-gu), to ensure seismic safety and the operational sustainability of industrial facilities.
Through the agreement, the five agencies agreed to develop and apply design technologies that are tailored to the characteristics of the industrial facilities, with the aim to enhance their preparedness in the face of the increasing frequency of earthquakes. This agreement will not only ensure the structural safety of industrial facilities but will also secure their operational sustainability in the event of an earthquake, while further enhancing the seismic performance of Korean industrial facilities. Moreover, it is expected that this agreement will establish a foundation for creating a competitive edge for applying Korea’s advanced design technologies to overseas industrial facilities.
“During a period that requires heightened attention to the seismic safety of industrial facilities, it is important to establish and formalize standards that are tailored to the characteristics of such facilities. This makes this agreement even more significant,” emphasized. KICT President Kim Byung-suk.
